Since the age of 7, Stuttgart High School senior, Erin Williams knew she wanted to excel in softball.
She started travel ball competition for Thunder of Benton and Texas Glory of Frisco, playing multiple positions, 2B, C and 3B.
On Friday, November 22, Erin signed her National Letter of Intent with Ouachita Baptist University (OBU) in Arkadelphia.
Erin has won several national championships and was the MVP of the Softball World Series.
During her tenure at SHS, Erin has been named either All-Conference or All-State.
Erin plays a vital role in leading the Lady Ricebirds to multiple conference championships.
According to Erin’s coach, Chason Bowman, Erin is a clutch player you can plug in the lineup anywhere.
Affectionately known as “Shorty”, Erin states the journey to get to this day was filled with lots of sacrifices that sometimes took an emotional toll on her.
“I’m a teenager. Of course, I wanted to hang out with my friends,” said Erin. “They would invite me places on the weekends but I couldn’t go due to practice or games.”
Erin wasn’t the only one who sacrificed. Erin says her mom sacrificed to make her dream come true.
“My mom spent countless hours in the car waiting on me,” said Erin.
Erin’s mom, Tonya Munnerlyn, credits her daughter for giving her best efforts and sacrificing for her future.
“She missed out being a typical teenager,” said Tonya. “She missed parties and outings with her friends but I couldn’t be more proud. She has worked so hard.”
Erin will begin her freshman year at OBU in the fall of 2020. Her excitement to begin doesn’t just have to do with softball.
Erin is looking forward to the academic possibilities and her chance to excel in the classroom as well as on the field.
Erin’s academic achievements include honor roll, Principal Award and The National Honor Society.
“Signing with OBU was a really huge accomplishment that I was able to do,” said Erin. “I wanted to go to OBU for academics and was fortunate they wanted me for softball.”
Erin plans to finish out her softball career in college while pursuing a degree in Kinesiology.
