We have requested a meeting with Love Rest Green Groove cemetery board on Monday, Oct 14, 2019, at Lively Stone Pentecostal Church at 5:30 in reference to the order of the maintenance of the historic Black cemetery.
I reached out to their President Mrs.Debra Moss asking her to make a Public apology and list the order of the maintenance of the cemetery.
Like I shared with Mrs. Moss this is the order of the maintenance of the Historic Black Cemetery. I got the Arkansas Department of Corrections inmates to come down and help us clean the cemetery because it was a swamp.
Joining us were Charles Smith, Reverend Alvin Carter, and June Carter. After some time the cemetery had fallen into disrepair again, I asked Mr. Smith to get all the Pastors together and he did. We went out and brought the cemetery back up to par.
This is when Mr. and Mrs. Spears, along with Andrew Robinson took over the maintenance of the cemetery. After some time the cemetery was neglected again.
This is when the men pictured came out during the summer of 2018 and worked diligently to bring the cemetery back to respectability. This work wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for Jim Craig and Henry Newby.
We worked diligently every Saturday morning, for six weeks. The gravel road, Jim Craig made that happen. Henry Newby brought his hedgehog out every Saturday and for them not to be formally recognized because of the color of their skin bothered me.
I can’t forget about Jim’s son James who worked just as hard as his dad. The chiggers ate Mr. Smith and I up but we came back Saturday after Saturday until the job was done.
Now Virgil Bradley is in charge of the maintenance of the cemetery, and he’s doing a magnificent job. This is the Chronologically order of the maintenance of the Historic Black Cemetery.
