Perseverance is not giving up and on Monday three Meekins Middle School 6th-grade students were recognized for their grit, tenacity, determination, dedication and persistence.
The Kendric Stigger Memorial Persevarance award was presented to Lyric Scales, DeMariya Lee and Amiya Spratt on Monday, May 25.
Meekins Middle School held a virtual awards ceremony and honored the students in Stigger’s memory.
On November 1, 2017, at the age of 14, Kendric Stigger (Stuttgart, Arkansas) passed away.

Stigger faced many challenges with a heart defect which kept him from engaging in activities that were normal for boys his age. His doctor’s appointments were set early so he wouldn’t miss school.
“Kendric Stigger was the epitome of perseverance,” said Meekins Middle School award presenters during the virtual award ceremony. “To know Kendric was to love him because even though he faced these challenges daily, he did so with a smile on his face and laughter in his eyes.”
To honor Stigger, MMS created the award to give to 6th grade students that have faced adversity and prevailed with perseverance just as Stigger did.
